Method for determination of adipic acid

Adipic acid determination method
Adipic acid is a common organic acid that has a wide range of applications with many materials. In the laboratory, we need to determine the concentration of adipic acid to confirm its purity and quality. Below are two commonly used measurement methods.
1、 Acid base titration method 1. Sample preparation: Dissolve the adipic acid to be measured in an appropriate amount of deionized water and record the results in the experimental notebook. 2. Experimental procedure: Place the above solution into a titration bottle, add a small amount of phenolphthalein indicator, and slowly titrate with standard sodium hydroxide solution until the color turns dark pink. Record the volume V of the titrant consumed. 3. Calculate the molar mass of adipic acid as 146.14g/mol, with the chemical formula C6H10O4. The measured molar concentration of adipic acid is: mol/L=(concentration of standard NaOH solution) * (volume of titrant consumed V)/(volume of adipic acid solution * 2). 2. UV spectrophotometry: 1. Sample preparation: Dissolve the adipic acid to be measured in an appropriate amount of methanol to prepare a standard solution of adipic acid with a 5mm optical path length and a concentration of 10 μ g/ml. 2. The experimental procedure involves injecting approximately 0.2ml of methanol into a detachable colorimetric dish, and then adding the sample or adipic acid standard for measurement. The total volume is approximately 4mL after adding methanol. The detachable colorimetric dish and the empty colorimetric dish are placed in a UV spectrophotometer and measured at 266nm. After reading out the measurement results, input the adipic acid standard curve into the built-in computer, and the computer will automatically calculate the content results. The above are two commonly used methods for determining adipic acid, but the determination methods may vary depending on different experiments and usage requirements. Please follow the relevant laboratory regulations when operating in the laboratory.
